APPLICATION
PUR HOT MELT ADHESIVES
PUR hot melt adhesive, or polyurethane reactive hot melt, is a one-component adhesive applied in a molten state. It develops initial bond strength as it cools and then reacts with moisture in the air or substrate to form a durable cross-linked bond. Once fully cured, PUR adhesive cannot be remelted like conventional thermoplastic hot melts.
1. Key benefits of PUR hot melt adhesive
- High bond strength on a wide range of substrates, including difficult-to-bond materials.
- Good resistance to heat, moisture and demanding service conditions after curing.
- Thin, clean bond lines for applications requiring a high-quality finish.
- Solvent-free application for an efficient production process.
2. Common applications
PUR hot melts are commonly used for woodworking and edge banding, flat lamination, bookbinding, furniture, automotive interiors, textiles, footwear and technical assemblies that require durable adhesion.
Selection and processing considerations: Product selection should consider the substrates, line speed, open time, application temperature, coating weight and final service conditions. PUR adhesive should be protected from moisture before use and processed with suitable equipment under controlled operating conditions.
VALONA supports adhesive selection and sample testing to identify a suitable PUR hot melt solution for each production line.
